Several Putnam County and Yorktown community organizations have received state grant money that will help fund youth workforce training, substance abuse prevention, and domestic violence outreach programs. State Sen. Pete Harckham helped secure $604,500 in an end-of-year resolution for the funding, which was distributed to 15 different recipients.

The town of Yorktown is in good fiscal shape, a recently completed independent audit said. The audit, which was begun earlier this year, by Alan Kassay, a partner with the PFK O’Connor Davies accounting, gave the town an “unmodified (clean) opinion” for 2024.

Members of a group called Fight Lawler are demanding an ethics probe after accusing Putnam County Legislator Erin Crowley of using a false name to infiltrate a Signal chat in the run up to and during a local town hall conducted by Congressman Mike Lawler. Crowley, whose district includes part of Mahopac, is Lawler’s representative in the area, and often meets with constituents on his behalf. Members of the group and other Lawler opponents staged a demonstration outside the Carmel Town Hall, on Thursday, July 17, calling for Crowley’s resignation and demanding an investigation into her actions.

Rep. Mike Lawler will not run for governor in 2026. The second-term Republican from Rockland County — whose district includes all of Rockland and Putnam counties, as well as much of northern Westchester and Dutchess County — told the New York Times on Wednesday he’ll forgo a run for governor next year, and instead, seek a third term in the U.S. House of Representatives.
