The Yorktown Building Department is preparing to launch a new online permitting platform designed to streamline the application process for residents, contractors and design professionals.
The system, operated through City Squared and linked to Municity 6, will allow users to submit and track building permit applications entirely online. Full services are expected to be available by January.
For now, only the property search function at citysquared.com is active while the department tests the program to ensure a smooth rollout. The search feature enables realtors and homeowners to look up property details such as open permits, violations and certificates of occupancy on file.
Office Manager Nisreen Khoury told the Town Board at its Sept. 16 meeting that the system will enable homeowners and contractors to apply for permits — including plumbing permits — online, eliminating the need to call or email the department. Residents undertaking renovations will also be able to manage their own applications digitally.
According to officials, the system will let applicants upload plans, add contractor information, pay fees and receive notifications electronically, reducing paperwork and the need for in-person visits to Town Hall. Residents will also be able to check application status and inspection results in real time.
Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman said the change is aimed at making the process more convenient for taxpayers by allowing them to complete applications from home.
The launch will coincide with the rollout of the town’s revamped website, which is designed to provide easier access to information and services.
