Rethinking gas, fracking and Indian PointDear Editor, Was just reading Don Scott’s piece about gas line installs ("The most regressive tax you've never heard of," Feb. 5, Page 19), and I have to ask, does anyone subsidize the cost of putting in a... more
Gratitude for Yorktown’s storm responseEditor's Note: This letter was sent to the paper on Feb. 5, so the letter writer is referring to the storm last month. But we're sure it's equally applicable to this week's weather event. Dear... more
Dear Editor, This morning was icy. I had already slipped once on our back patio, so taking my eight-pound dog on a walk on our well traveled Ridgefield Avenue was much safer than the icy yard or the foot of... more
Ashli Babbitt and Renee Good are not the sameDear Editor, I read the Publisher's Memo, which drew an equivalence between Ashli Babbitt and Renee Nicole Good ("Why politics and certainty can distort the pursuit of justice," Jan. 15, Page 16). I... more
Your generosity made hope possibleDear Editor, At the Community Center of Northern Westchester, gratitude is at the center of everything we do. As we reflect on the past year, our hearts are full. We extend our deepest thanks to the entire... more
Dear Editor, I am heartbroken and outraged by the killing of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old American intensive care VA nurse, by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Pretti was... more
Facing cancer with a community beside meDear Editor, It truly takes a village. In moments of uncertainty and hardship, you learn very quickly what kind of community you live in. North Salem has once again proven that we are a town that shows up... more
Dear Editor, This letter is a response to Katherine Daniels’ letter to the editor from the last paper ("Not welcome: North Salem Town Board member joins calls to remove federal agents," Feb. 5,... more
Councilwoman Daniels must acknowledge the victimsDear Editor, Say their names, Katherine Daniels ("Not welcome: North Salem Town Board member joins calls to remove federal agents," Feb. 5, Page 14). Your recent letter calling for the removal of... more
The reality of immigration raids impacting North Salem workersDear Editor, Like many people, I have been deeply disturbed by the news articles and images coming out of Chicago, Los Angeles and now Minneapolis of masked ICE agents pulling people... more
Dear Editor, As another election season comes to a close, we want to congratulate the winners; and to pause and thank every North Salem resident who voted, volunteered or... more
Dear Editor, Your entire argument regarding immigration and the blame you attribute to Democrats is totally disingenuous ("No Kings-and no double standards," Oct. 23, Page 22). Conservative Republican Sen. James Langford worked for many months with Democratic colleagues on a $120 billion comprehensive immigration bill. It was brought more
Dear Editor, I’ve known Ed Lachterman for more than a decade — not through politics, but through a shared passion for community service. Ed has always been someone you could count on to show up, roll up his sleeves and help wherever there was a need. As a proud member of the Yorktown Lions Club, Ed was always first in line to volunteer. Over the years, I’ve seen him support countless local causes and organizations, including the Alliance for Safe Kids, My more
Dear Editor, I have lived in Yorktown for over eight years, and nothing has brought me greater joy than raising my two girls in this wonderful town. Over the years, I’ve learned that Yorktown is a truly special community—one that comes together in times of celebration and in times of need. And no one embodies that spirit of community more than Sergio Esposito. He truly is the face of this town. more
Dear Editor, I’ve had the privilege of knowing Sergio Esposito for many years — long before his time in politics, and even then, it was clear that his leadership was rooted in something deeper than strategy or ambition. What has always stood out to me is his unwavering commitment to people: to truly seeing them, hearing them and creating spaces where everyone feels valued and empowered. more
Dear Editor, As many residents know, I’ve lived in Yorktown my entire life. My parents bought their home here before I was born, and I was raised on these tree-lined streets. From volunteering with United for the Troops to the Lions Club, I’ve always felt a deep love for our town, its people, its energy and its unmistakable hometown spirit. Yorktown isn’t just where I live, it’s who I am. more
Dear Editor, As a Mahopac resident, retired teacher and avid reader of Mahopac News, I’m writing out of concern for the girls/young women on the various sports teams of Mahopac and doubtless other high schools. Each time I read and see accompanying photos of the MHS girls’ teams, I’m severely dismayed and disappointed by the uniform that they seem to have adopted.  more
Dear Editor, With regard to the Publisher's Memo saying that both sides having double standards ("No Kings—and no double standards," Oct. 23, Page 22), no question there are bad actors on both sides. But I think the Republicans are winning this one in large measure. more
Dear Editor, As a relative newcomer to Mahopac – a hamlet with a storied past – I have watched as year-in and year-out the same folks have been elected to the Carmel Town Board, while at the same time many important projects continually stall. We all know what happens when important decisions are delayed; we often wind up paying more than if they had been addressed in a timelier manner. I believe a change of the guard is in order, and to ensure that better due-diligence, negotiation and decision-making become part of our Town Board, I’m voting for Jean Hopper for Town Board Supervisor. Jean is a long-time Carmelite with professional managerial experience who has raised her family here and become deeply involved in her community. She is exceedingly familiar with Carmel’s issues and has been following the board’s work for years. more
Dear Editor, Democrat State Sen. Peter Harckham is proposing legislation that would authorize NY State to bypass local zoning codes in order to allow houses of worship to build high-density multi-family low income housing and housing for the homeless on their properties. The “Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act” is just the State’s latest attempt to override local control over zoning. It is the latest iteration of the widely unpopular “Pro-Housing Community Program.” Mount Kisco proper has 10 houses of worship with at least one, the Fountain Of Eternal Life Church, sitting on approximately eight acres. Envision a high-rise apartment buildin more
