Congressman Lawler delivers for downtown Somers

Posted

Dear Editor,

Downtown Somers depends on water and sewer lines most people never think about. Many of the buildings here still sit on old septic systems and water mains that predate most of us. That limits what any shop owner can do with a property, and it puts our groundwater at risk.

Congressman Mike Lawler secured $2 million to start replacing the water main in our historic business district, and he followed it with another $1 million to install a proper sewer main downtown. Together that lets older buildings expand, makes room for new businesses, and protects the water under our feet.

Federal money can feel abstract until you watch it turn into pipe in the ground on your own street. Somers is finally getting that. I am grateful to Rep. Lawler for making our small downtown a priority.
