Preserve Reynolds farmhouse as municipal hub

Posted

Dear Editor,

Concerning the possible subdivision of a 15-acre parcel on Route 35 in Cross River, I am writing a reminder that the Reynolds family has a centuries-long history in the hamlet. This includes the brick house and Baptist church on Route 121S, the Homestead, the cemetery and now the farmhouse at 831 Route 35, which is at risk of being surrounded by who knows how many homes. I propose the Reynolds Farmhouse be preserved as a monument to the hamlet’s history, like the Cyrus Russell House. It is perfectly situated at the center of this odd-shaped town and could be a win-win if it were re-zoned for municipal use as the future Lewisboro Police Headquarters, thus eliminating the looming LES deadline. The front orchard might accommodate a parking lot and the remaining acreage could preserve open land. The renamed Reynolds Municipal House could serve as a hub for offices currently at risk of being displaced. Not only would this resolve the LES issue, but it would satisfy the neighbors’ concerns over water, septic, traffic, open land and drastic change of community character.
