Gun found at Mohegan Lake crash leads to felony weapon charge

A Cortlandt Manor man is facing a felony charge after the Yorktown Police Department said a firearm was found at the scene of an August crash in Mohegan Lake.

Police said 73-year-old Gregory Candredi crashed on Strawberry Road, where officers recovered a gun near his overturned vehicle, on Aug. 2. Investigators allege he did not have a valid pistol permit at the time. He was taken to a hospital for injuries from the crash.

Candredi surrendered at police headquarters Sept. 19 and was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a Class E felony. He was released on his own recognizance and is due in Yorktown Justice Court on Oct. 10.
