YORKTOWN, N.Y. — The Yorktown Police Department is reminding residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables after a series of overnight larcenies in the Wildwood Street and Allan Avenue areas.
According to police, multiple unlocked vehicles were entered during the spree. One victim’s stolen debit card was used roughly 90 minutes later in Newark, N.J.
“These suspects are typically young adults from the tri-state area, often driving stolen vehicles while seeking others to steal or loot,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Police said that in many cases, locked vehicles were left untouched.
Investigators are working with county, state, and federal partners, though authorities noted that if suspects are arrested, they are likely to be released after arraignment unless wanted for more serious offenses.
Residents are urged to lock their vehicles—especially if they store garage door openers inside—and to report any video evidence to info@yorktownpd.org.
Police added that some newer vehicles automatically retract side mirrors when locked, which may serve as a deterrent.
