Two Yorktown residents are accused of stealing more than $2,600 worth of merchandise from Lowe’s in an alleged theft scheme spanning several months, according to Yorktown police.

Police said Waddie Cartagena, 62, and Michael Harnaga-Rentas, 52, were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony, following an investigation into the reported thefts.

According to police, the two allegedly stole multiple items from Lowe’s, 3200 Crompond Road, on multiple occasions between April 25 and July 23. The total value of the stolen merchandise was $2,678.32.

It was not clear what items they stole.

The investigation began after police responded to the store on July 30 regarding a past larceny report and met with Lowe’s Asset Protection. Both defendants were issued appearance tickets and released on their own recognizance.

Both individuals are scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Aug. 18 at 6 p.m.
