YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y.—A 26-year-old Yorktown man faces a second-degree attempted murder charge after a stabbing incident outside BJ’s Wholesale Club on Father’s Day morning.

Police responded around 11:30 a.m. on June 15 to the shopping center parking lot on Crompond Road after reports that a person had been stabbed in the neck with a knife. The address listed on the police report matches that of BJ’s.

An officer arrived on the scene and located the suspect matching the description provided by the victim. The suspect, identified by police as Jared Hunter Alongi, allegedly attempted to flee on foot. An investigation determined that Alongi stabbed the victim in the neck with a large kitchen knife. He was still in possession of the knife at the time of his arrest, police said.

The victim’s current condition is unknown, but Chief of Police Robert Noble told Yorktown News that the person was “not seriously injured.”

He added that the department believes the incident “was a random attack, as the victim did not recognize our suspect.”

Noble called the work of Yorktown Police Officer Curtin “simply outstanding.”

According to Noble, Curtin "arrived on scene quickly, took immediate action consistent with department training and guidelines, and was able to convince the suspect to drop the weapon. Giving clear and concise commands, Officer Curtin was able to arrest the suspect without incident.  Additional Yorktown Police resources arrived quickly to further assist Officer Curtin and commence an investigation into this disturbing crime. We thank the business owners in the area, as well as civilian witnesses, who assisted our investigation.”

Alongi was transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters for processing and arraigned at Yorktown Justice Court. Temporary orders of protection were issued for the victim and witnesses to the incident.  He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, a class B felony.

He was remanded to Westchester County Jail and is due to appear in Yorktown Justice Court Tuesday at 6 p.m.
