At about 5:20 p.m. Friday, Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department was called to the Route 129 bridge at Hunterbrook Road to help with a medical emergency after a person fell below the bridge.
Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Empress Emergency Medical Services were already on scene when firefighters were asked to assist with getting the person back up from a rocky area below the bridge, according to a post on the all-volunteer agency’s Facebook page.
According to responders, the person had been swinging from a rope tied to the bridge when it broke, causing the fall.
Firefighters set up a rope system to reach the person and bring them safely back up to the roadway. The patient was then turned over to EMS and taken to the hospital.
