A Shrub Oak man and retired Yonkers Fire Department captain has been charged with possessing and promoting child sexual abuse material, according to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

Scott Denet, 57, was arraigned Tuesday on a felony complaint charging him with promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, and possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.

Denet was released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings and is due back in court June 30.

“Those who possess and share child sexual abuse material are not merely engaging in legally prohibited conduct, they are retraumatizing the victims depicted in those videos who still bear the scars of their abuse,” said Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace in a statement from her office. “My office works diligently with our partners at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to detect all forms of child sexual abuse on the internet and track down the individuals responsible for creating and promoting such material.”

She added that “if anyone in Westchester County endeavors to access these images, or tries to conceal their attempts to do so, we will find out, and we will hold you to account.”

According to the felony complaint, Denet allegedly shared a photograph depicting a nude female child through an application called “Thundr” on or about July 31, 2025. Prosecutors also allege he possessed a video file depicting a nude female child engaged in sexual activity on April 24, 2026.

Officials said the alleged conduct occurred after Denet retired from the Yonkers Fire Department in April 2023.

The case was investigated by the Hi-Tech Unit within the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The case is being prosecuted by Cyber Crimes Bureau Chief Michael Delohery.
