A 24-year-old Yorktown man has been charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person following an investigation into allegations involving a disabled student at the Shrub Oak International School, according to Yorktown police.

Police said Oscar Vigil was arrested May 7 after surrendering at Yorktown Police Department headquarters. He was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to police, officers responded Nov. 19, 2025, at about 5:42 p.m. to a report of an incident involving the welfare of an adult at the school. Investigators alleged Vigil, who was employed by the school, slapped a disabled student, force-fed the student and engaged in other actions that endangered the student’s welfare.

This is one of several similar incidents that have been reported at the school in recent years.

Following the investigation, Vigil surrendered to police at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday and was processed on the charge, police said.

Vigil was arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court and released on his own recognizance. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

He is scheduled to return to Yorktown Justice Court on June 4 at 6 p.m.
