YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y.—A man wanted in connection with a February 2024 gas station burglary was found at New York City’s infamous Rikers Island.
The Yorktown Police Department said a 23-year-old Bronx resident was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree grand larceny, both class D felonies and third-degree criminal mischief, a class E felony.
On February 13, 2024, officers responded to an alarm activation at Gulf gas station at 3451 Crompond Rd. An investigation found the gas station had been burglarized and proceeds had been taken by several individuals.
Detectives were able to identify three individuals who they believed committed the burglary but were unable to locate them at the time. Arrest warrants for the three individuals were applied for and issued by the Yorktown Justice Court.
Yorktown police learned that John Edward Villar-Villa, one of the suspects, was in custody at Rikers Island Correctional Center on an unrelated matter. On June 3, Yorktown officers traveled to Rikers to arrest Villar-Villa, making him the second person taken into custody in the burglary case. A third suspect has not yet been located.
He was brought to police headquarters in Yorktown for processing. He was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on June 10 at 6 p.m.
