Yorktown police recently arrested two people in separate incidents, including a California man accused of assault and a Yorktown Heights man accused of stealing a package from a resident’s home.

Attempted assault

A California man was arrested July 22 after police said he allegedly assaulted a person during a dispute at a Yorktown home.

Police said officers responded to the residence at about 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a physical altercation. Investigators determined that Christopher L. Von Stein, 44, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, allegedly grabbed the victim and struck them multiple times in the head and neck.

Police did not identify the victim or disclose the nature of their relationship to Von Stein.

Von Stein was charged with attempted third-degree assault, a Class B misdemeanor. A judge issued a temporary order of protection for the victim before releasing Von Stein on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.

Package theft

A Yorktown Heights man was arrested Aug. 3 after Yorktown police said he allegedly stole a package from a resident’s home.

Police said they received a report June 18 of a package that had been stolen after being delivered to a Yorktown residence. An investigation identified 19-year-old Angel Cuevas, as the alleged suspect. The package was valued at $53.05, police said.

Cuevas was arrested at his home and charged with petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. He was issued an appearance ticket and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. on Aug. 20.
