YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y.—A Newark, New Jersey, man was arrested by Yorktown police last week after allegedly attacking someone with a tool more commonly found on a construction site.
Police were called to Underhill Farms, an active construction site at 370 Underhill Ave., on the afternoon of Thursday, May 15 after report of a possible assault. That’s where they said 49-year-old Vicente Maderia de Miranda used a hammer tacker stapler—a device typically used to secure things like insulation or roofing felt—to attack a local resident’s foot “imbedding multiple staples” and causing what police described as “substantial pain.”
The Newark man was taken into custody at the scene and charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony. He was arraigned before Judge Aviah Cohen-Pierson, who issued a temporary order of protection for the victim.
He was released on his own recognizance and is due to appear in court on Thursday, June 5 at 6 p.m.
