All-women crew makes history at Lake Mohegan Fire Department

Posted

The Lake Mohegan Fire Department marked a milestone this month when an all-women crew staffed its headquarters.

Firefighters Ali Lisella, Melissa Brady and Cat Orza made up the crew, which the department described as a sign of progress as women now account for about 10 percent of its ranks. Officials also said the department has the most career female firefighters in Westchester County.

A photo posted on social media showed the three firefighters during the historic shift.

“We’re proud to have the most career female firefighters in Westchester County, with women making up nearly 10 percent of our ranks, well above the national average. Our sister firefighters continue to defy the odds, proving every day that with hard work, determination, and grit, anything is possible,” the union wrote on social media.

“They are an inspiration not only within our department, but to the next generation of female firefighters, showing them that there are no limits to what they can achieve in this job.”
