A Bronx man drove his vehicle into a marked Yorktown Police patrol car on the Taconic State Parkway, causing more than $250 in damage, police said.

The incident happened around 9 a.m. Jan. 16 during a multi-agency pursuit. The patrol car was operated by Officer Brandon Schmelmer at the time.  It was not immediately clear whether he sustained any major injuries.

During the pursuit, Giovanni Sierra, 23, allegedly intentionally struck the patrol car.

Sierra was initially taken into custody by New York State Police on other charges. Yorktown Police later took him into their custody and transported him to headquarters for processing, police said.

He was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a Class E felony, and 15 traffic violations. Sierra was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m.
