Dear Editor:
As members of the North Salem Democratic Committee, we proudly and enthusiastically support Katherine Daniels for Town Supervisor.
For over two decades, Katherine has served as an elected town official and volunteer – working tirelessly to protect North Salem’s rural character and enhance the quality of life for every resident. She has a track record of working collaboratively with members of the community, town officials, leaders of surrounding localities, and with state and county representatives to deliver real results for the people of North Salem. Katherine builds teams, solicits and listens to community stakeholders, acts with transparency and always for the benefit of the entire community. These are the leadership qualities that North Salem deserves - now and for building the future.
Katherine’s first elected position was to the North Salem School District in 2006 as a trustee. She was re-elected four times and served 14 years, four as president. Together with parents, teachers, school administrators and local officials, Katherine worked to improve school services, curriculum and facilities leading to the North Salem School District being recognized as among the finest and most innovative in New York State. She worked tirelessly – and again collaboratively with all stakeholders – identifying opportunities for shared services and cost efficiencies – to budget effectively and ensure taxpayer dollars were spent wisely and with full transparency.
Katherine was elected to the North Salem Town Board in 2021 and re-elected in 2024. She chairs the Capital Planning and Climate Smart Communities committees. Together with these teams, Katherine is striving to make sure the Town Board does a better job of identifying, prioritizing and scheduling the town’s investments in infrastructure and facilities (roads, water and sewer systems, public buildings, parks and equipment). She is determined to ensure each project aligns with community needs and to coordinate financing and debt issuance to avoid fiscal shocks and spread costs over time.
Katherine and her team secured over $300,000 in grants to make efficiency upgrades to town buildings, including installation of solar panels on the Town Highway garage. Those panels will provide enough energy to power the Highway garage and are projected to generate up to $14,000 of power annually that will be credited towards the town’s other electric bills.
A life-long volunteer, Katherine is an EMT and active member of the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps, helping community members at their most vulnerable times. She served on the North Salem Comprehensive Planning Committee and Energy Advisory Panel. She is co-president of the North Salem Bridle Trails Association and a former trustee of the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library. Katherine has a proven track record of commitment to serving the people of North Salem and making North Salem a better place.
