Lucas knows North Salem — and how to get things done

In a small town like North Salem, experience matters.

Our supervisor isn’t simply responsible for presiding over meetings. The job requires an understanding of town finances, municipal operations, emergency services, infrastructure and the many issues that affect our community. It also requires knowing how to work with other levels of government to make sure a small town like ours is heard.

That is one of the reasons I support Supervisor Warren Lucas.

Over his years of service, Warren has developed something that cannot be acquired overnight: a deep knowledge of North Salem and the experience and relationships necessary to advocate effectively for it.

He has worked with officials at the county, state and federal levels and has successfully pursued outside grants and funding for our community. For a town of our size, those relationships matter. Every outside dollar brought back to North Salem is a resource that can be put to work here at home.

But experience is about more than knowing people in government. It is about knowing North Salem.

Warren understands the character of this community and what residents value about living here. We are not trying to become another densely developed part of Westchester. We value our open spaces, our neighborhoods, our historic hamlets and the small-town atmosphere that makes North Salem different.

At the same time, a town cannot stand still. Roads and facilities need attention. Public safety must be supported. Infrastructure must be maintained and improved. New challenges arise, and opportunities for outside funding have to be pursued.

Balancing those responsibilities while preserving what makes North Salem special requires judgment and experience.

There is something to be said for steady leadership at the local level. I don’t need my town supervisor to make headlines every day. I want someone who understands the job, knows our community, protects North Salem’s interests and has demonstrated an ability to get things done.

Warren Lucas brings that experience to the job every day.

For me, experience isn’t a reason to look backward. It’s one of the best reasons to feel confident about North Salem’s future.
