John Francis Callanan Sr., known as Jack by all, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025. He was 83 years old.

Jack was born on September 29, 1941, to Daniel and Margaret (Sullivan) in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx where he was raised with his sister and four brothers.

In 1962 he joined the US Army and proudly served his country. Upon his discharge he was hired as a machinist at Con Edison where he worked for 31 years.

In 1964 Jack married Elizabeth McQuillan at St. Phillip Neri church. They moved to Putnam Lake and later settled in Brewster, NY where they raised their four children. Jack and Elizabeth adored travelling and meeting new people. They spent a significant portion of their lives together touring the world with their friends and family.

In his former days Jack could be found on the golf course, in his tomato garden or at the stove cooking Sunday morning breakfast for the whole family.

Jack was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #2101, a lifelong Yankee fan and a skilled poker player always looking forward to his weekly game of cards.

Known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, Jack was never without a joke, funny story or tale from the good old days to share.

Jack will be unbelievably missed by his loving wife Elizabeth of 60 years, son Jack (Maureen) Callanan, daughters Kim(Tommy) Regan, Lorraine(Jimmy) Lennon and Jamie (Tom) Williams. However, his absolute greatest source of pride and joy were his 11 grandchildren whom he cherished and they affectionately knew as Poppy: Kevin, Kathleen, Sean, Erin, Tara, Brendan, Danielle, Owen, Ryan, Patrick and Jack.

He knew he was blessed and will forever be in our hearts. May he rest in peace. “Not bad for a kid from the Bronx.”
