Suesan Jean Barisic (née Muir), 70, of Mount Kisco, New York, died unexpectedly on July 27, 2026 surrounded by her family. Born prematurely on Valentine’s Day 1956 in Greenwich, Connecticut Suesan was known best for being a ray of sunshine and her joie de vivre.
Suesan was a graduate of Greenwich High School, Westchester Community College, and the Culinary Institute of America. She worked as a chef for many years before becoming a homemaker after the birth of her daughter. She loved preparing food that was both beautiful and delicious, and her culinary talents were a greatly anticipated part of every family meal. Suesan was a member of the Daughters of Scotia for the last 37 years, joining at the behest of her late grandmother Grace Muir. She found a special sisterhood among women who shared her love of Scotland, most recently being a part of Rocky Mountain Heather #266 in Colorado with all the women of her family.
Suesan was an avid reader; she was known to get lost in her thrillers and murder mysteries into the early morning hours. She loved to travel and was always ready to plan the next adventure, whether it be to visit family, art museums, trains for her husband, or find a new tearoom to indulge in! Her annual getaways to Newport, Rhode Island were a balm to her soul, fondly reminding her of childhood summers spent with the extended Muir/McKnight family in Bay Head, New Jersey. Suesan also loved her many dogs who slept by her side for the last thirty years.
Suesan leaves behind her soulmate, her doting husband of 36 years, Thomas Barisic, and their treasured daughter Sara Jane Barisic. She is also survived by her siblings, Amy (Don) Murrell, Laurie Muir, William Muir Jr, Brian (Jocelyn) Muir, brother-in-law Peter (Nadia) Barisic, and her many nieces, nephews, and their children.
Suesan’s family finds comfort that she is now reunited in spirit with her dearly missed parents, William and Emily (Salwierz) Muir.
A memorial service will be held for Suesan at Bedford Presbyterian Church in Bedford, New York. The memorial will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 1:00pm.
