Carole T. Carter

Carole Tyler Carter passed away on November 22, 2024, after a brief illness. Carole was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. This cannot be an ordinary obituary because Carole was an extraordinary woman. Carole was fond of joking that every morning when she woke up, she would look in the mirror and say “you are an amazing woman”, which happened to be one of the greatest understatements of all time. Carole was the friend that you could share a laugh, a meal, or a burden with and restore harmony to your life. She was the star by which her family navigated. She was the grandmother that you were able to have conversations with like nobody else, someone who heard. To all, Mrs. Carter was someone who listened and smiled, and the smile was infectious.

For forty years, Carole was a fixture in the first-grade section of Primrose Elementary school. The joy and satisfaction she got from being in a classroom nourished her soul in a sometimes-trying profession. As a teacher she treated every child with respect and love. She taught them to read, opening up a world of possibilities for each and every student. She nurtured their creativity through art which engendered an appreciation for that which is beautiful in this world; whatever was in the eye of the beholder. As a colleague, she could share tidbits of pedagogical wisdom over a lunch that were stored in your bag of tricks and polished over the years. Even after her retirement, she kept returning to Primrose as a volunteer to help students who were encountering difficulties with reading and served as an advocate for their educational needs.

Carole was the only child of Everett and Eleanor Tyler and grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. Carole and her husband Jim moved to Somers in 1971 with their three children. Not long thereafter, Carole became a full-time teacher at Primrose Elementary. Carole was preceded in death by her beloved parents, and granddaughter Jessie. Carole loved her family: daughters Sue and Jeanne; son Jeff; and grandchildren: Christina Carter, Elaine Andersen, Jake Andersen, Mark Andersen, Kelsey Hough, and Evan Hough. She leaves behind a host of friends, and hundreds of former first-graders.

She was truly loved and will be greatly missed.

Memorial Service:

Services were held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Somers NY, on Sunday December 8th @ 1:00 PM to celebrate Carole Carter’s Life.
