Dear Editor,
I was a bit confused by the juxtaposition of your latest column by Don Scott (“Opponents, not enemies” in the Oct. 1 issue of The Katonah-Lewisboro Times and online) and the thoroughly negative ad against Cait Conley by Mike Lawler.
Scott condemns ads where the “… opponent is not merely wrong. They are evil, devoid of any human characteristics.” The ad in question depicts Conley as a puppet. That’s certainly “devoid of any human characteristics.” Scott goes on to say: “There is a difference between an opponent and an enemy. An opponent is someone with whom you disagree. An enemy is someone who must be silenced, erased or destroyed. Civility requires respect for your opponent.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Yet, you have seen fit to totally ignore this observation by accepting this heinous, and I might add, thoroughly cheesy ad. Do I laugh or do I cry?
