For accountability and a fresh start, I back Vallejos and Moran

Dear Editor,

Mount Kisco residents face a pivotal election this year that will determine whether we move forward or continue to decline. Trustee Luzio’s tenure has been defined by deteriorating quality of life, crumbling infrastructure, more traffic, a credit rating downgrade, doubling of parking rates, increased fees, etc.

Instead of focusing on issues of concern to residents and businesses, he has often been dismissive and engaged in self- promotion and political retribution. While he portrays himself to be a champion of free speech, he led the effort to enforce a three-minute limit on Public Comment at board meetings - yet allowed his non-resident supporters to speak in violation of the rules.

Luzio’s running mate, Michael McGuirk, Planning Board Chair, has a pattern of failing to perform due diligence with respect to intrusive development. The most recent example is a proposed 54-unit apartment complex in a residential neighborhood, which he referred to as “exciting.”

McGuirk voted to allow the project to proceed without environmental review despite the fact that it sits atop underground springs adjacent to wetlands. The project ignores the threat to our finite and fragile water supply, increased traffic, and the lack of onsite parking. This high-density housing needs three times the 41 spaces proposed and will create a hardship for the current residents of an Environmental Justice neighborhood.

Mount Kisco is at a tipping point and cannot afford two more years of failed leadership.

Independent candidates Jen Vallejos, a bilingual MKES teacher and Sean Moran, former firefighter, have Mount Kisco’s best interests at heart. They’re running a positive campaign highlighted by a desire to restore competence, accountability, transparency and quality of life in our Village. They are not indebted to any political party and have vowed to put the people of Mount Kisco first. They deserve the chance to ensure a better future for Mount Kisco!

-Louis Terlizzi, Mount Kisco
