No one has done more for Yorktown’s small businesses than Sergio

Dear Editor,

I was reading the paper the other day and came across the article titled "We need a board that cares more about Yorktown” (By Michael Hickens, Sept. 18, Page 28).

Frankly, I found Mr. Hickins’ perspective completely out of touch with the reality of what our current Town Board—especially Councilman Sergio Esposito—has accomplished for Yorktown.

In his piece, Mr. Hickins attempts to discredit Sergio, a longtime friend and one of the most dedicated public servants I’ve ever seen in this town. He even goes so far as to suggest that Councilman Esposito doesn’t support local businesses. I had to read that line twice—it was so absurd it was almost laughable.

In reality, no one has done more to support and promote Yorktown’s small businesses than Sergio. I’ve known him for over 15 years, and throughout that time, he has worked tirelessly to revitalize this community. He has helped fill more empty storefronts than anyone I know and has been a relentless advocate for local business owners. Thanks to his leadership and energy, Yorktown is getting noticed far beyond our borders. During my travels throughout New York, when people learn I’m from Yorktown, they often say, “There’s a real buzz around Yorktown—it seems to be thriving.” That kind of recognition is a direct result of Sergio’s dedication and the broad impact of his social media presence.

But Sergio’s dedication goes beyond just the business community. He supports our schools and youth programs, attends sporting events, mentors students and regularly helps residents with their questions or concerns. He is known as a problem solver—someone who listens, investigates, and always gives honest, thoughtful answers. He’s also active with our senior community and makes a point to be present wherever he's needed.

Sergio Esposito represents exactly the kind of leadership Yorktown deserves. His compassion, work ethic and sincere love for our town are unmatched. I am proud to support him and grateful for all he continues to do.
