Yorktown to erect Revolutionary War monument

Yorktown will soon honor its Revolutionary War veterans with a new memorial at The Veteran Memorials Circle.

The Town Board approved transferring $15,000 from the general fund to cover the purchase in December of last year. The granite monument will be installed as part of nationwide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Various groups are planning several spring and summer events across town to mark the milestone.

Officials also expect the board to request funds for a Civil War monument, which would join the Revolutionary War memorial at the site, giving residents a central place to reflect on the nation’s history.
