Two men were charged with felony drug possession after a Yorktown police investigation into suspected shoplifting led to a traffic stop on Route 6 earlier this month.
Police announced on Wednesday, Sept. 30 that Detective James Hannigan observed several men “acting suspiciously and potentially stealing items” from Dick’s Sporting Goods at about 2:48 p.m. on Sept. 17. Hannigan continued surveillance and enlisted nearby patrol officers to conduct a traffic stop on Route 6.
The investigation led to the arrests of Jair Ayala Pineros, 48, of Elmhurst, and Fabian Suarez Garcia, 44, of Woodhaven. Both were charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony.
Pineros also was charged with petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. Suarez Garcia was additionally charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of an anti-security item, a Class B misdemeanor.
Both men were arraigned on Sept. 17 and released on their own recognizance. They are scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court 6 p.m. Oct. 15.
A 31-year-old Yorktown man was arrested Sept. 27 and charged with criminal mischief following a reported domestic dispute at a Yorktown residence, YPD said.
Police said officers responded to the residence at about 9:29 p.m. and conducted an investigation. Guillermo Campos-Zetino allegedly punched and broke a mirror during the dispute.
Campos-Zetino was arrested by Officer Guillermo Lizarzaburu and processed at police headquarters on a charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor.
He was arraigned, released and issued a temporary order of protection protecting the victim. He is due in Yorktown Justice Court at 6 p.m. Oct. 8.
