Dear Editor,
I recently attended the candidate forum hosted by the Carmel-Kent Chamber of Commerce and appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates about their records and priorities for our community. I came away particularly impressed by our State Assemblyman, Matt Slater.
Assemblyman Slater spoke clearly about the results he has delivered for our community, including investments to repave Routes 52 and 311. He helped deliver record school aid for Carmel this year, helping to stabilize school property taxes, and has secured state grants for the Kent Police Department, the Kent Public Library and Reed Memorial Library in Carmel.
While these accomplishments are impressive, I was most encouraged by his vision for the future. Assemblyman Slater laid out a clear plan to lower electricity costs, something that would help every resident regardless of political party. He has also proposed cutting state income taxes on retirement income, which could save some retirees more than $2,000 a year and make it easier for seniors to afford to stay right here in New York.
We are fortunate to have an assemblyman who continues to deliver for our community while tackling the difficult issues facing New Yorkers. Matt Slater has demonstrated that he understands the challenges facing our families and has a plan to address them.
Matt Slater has earned my support, and I hope my neighbors will support him as well.
-Martha G. Collins, Kent
