Dear Editor,
There has been much discussion in these pages over the upcoming election and I’m a bit perplexed at the number of my fellow neighbors advocating to elect or re-elect more Republicans this November.
Two years ago, President Trump ran on a platform of lowering costs, not getting into unnecessary wars and eliminating Washington waste.
Since he took office again, he has raised prices through self-inflicted unnecessary tariffs, which have alienated our closest allies, entered into a quagmire of a war in Iran, which has caused oil prices to skyrocket, and has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars destroying portions of Washington, D.C., including the reflecting pool and the White House, to satisfy his vanity.
There has also been zero oversight of Trump by this Congress. Congressman Mike Lawler voted multiple times to allow Trump’s tariffs to stay in place and allow the Iran war to continue. Re-electing Lawler is the equivalent of giving a misbehaving child a new toy. Likewise, anyone running under the Republican banner this year is implicitly saying they agree with Washington; I do not understand how anyone could rationally run as a Republican right now given the state of our economy, our military and our standing in the eyes of the world.
We need someone to hold Trump’s worst instincts in check and Cait Conley has the fortitude and tenacity to stand up to Trump and restore fiscal sanity to this country. I ask my fellow neighbors to look dispassionately at the policies and priorities of this administration. If you are unhappy with how they are affecting your daily life, there is only one logical choice – vote all Republicans out and send a message to Washington.
Maybe we will discover together that sending an overwhelming electoral message to our leaders is an effective deterrent against bad policies.
