Mirchandani seeks debate before early voting

Posted

Dear Editor,

The Yorktown Democratic Committee has reached out to organize a debate this cycle, and I want to see it happen. A real debate, with both candidates on stage, taking questions directly from Yorktown residents.

I'm asking Mr. Lachterman to commit now to a date in the first two weeks of October, before early voting begins, and to have an independent voice, such as the League of Women Voters, moderate it. That gives plenty of time to finalize logistics, publicize the event, and let residents submit questions.

This isn't about theater. It's about the questions Yorktown residents are actually asking: property taxes, development pressure, infrastructure, how decisions get made at Town Hall, and whether the people making them are accountable to the people affected. Voters deserve to hear both of us answer those questions directly, side by side, before they cast a ballot, not filtered through press releases or campaign mailers.

A debate isn't a favor to anyone. It's something residents are owed before they vote. I'm ready to commit to a date right now. I'm asking Ed to do the same.

Residents who want to see specific questions raised at the debate can send them to either local party chair.

I'm ready whenever the details are worked out. Let's get it on the calendar.

-Jann Mirchandani, candidate for Yorktown Supervisor
