Born in 1941, Mineola N.Y. to Marion (Weeks) and Rudolph Alson Neubauer. Living 11 years in Rockville Center, NY before moving to Thornwood, NY. Graduating from Pleasantville High School in 1959; Living 11 years in Somers, NY and 43 years in Patterson, NY. Married to Christine (Baum) 57 years; daughter Janis (David) Soderquist of Patterson, NY; Son Randolph A. Neubauer (Sanela Graca) of Patterson, NY; grandchildren: Leif Soderquist (Sabrina Jakobsen) of Patterson, NY; and Nels Soderquist (Monique), Elsa Neubauer (Dane Crowley) of NY, NY; Ryan Neubauer (Emily Ruegg) of Columbus, Ohio; his "guardian daughter" Eileen Baum of Mahopac, NY; and recently great-granddaughter Zelia Astrid Soderquist.
John is survived by his wife Christine's siblings: Richard and Nancy Baum of Harbert Michigan; Peter and Mayumi Yagi-Baum of Seattle, Washington; Scott and Gloria Baum Marlton, New Jersey; Nishtha (Patricia) and Pranika (Elizabeth) Baum of Queens, New York; Thomas and Caryn Baum of New Fairfield, Connecticut; and Eileen Baum. John is predeceased by his brother Carl (Nancy) Neubauer; Survived by his sister Wray and Edward Lipton residing in Lake Oswego, OR. He leaves nieces/nephews (grandnieces and grandnephews): Suzanne (Baum)/Oscar, Zoe, Noah, Lea Baum-Rebollo of Chicago, Illinois; Nikolas/Hannah of Ridgeland, South Carolina; Anthony/Alison, Sunny Baum of Cumberland, Rhode Island; Toshiro/Solianna, Emiko Baum of Washington, DC; Misa/Enzo of Seattle, Washington; Susan and Lynn Neubauer of North Carolina; Carol Neubauer of Florida; Bart/Kathy Lipton of California; Robin Quibuyen of California; and Lisa/John Parks of Portland, Oregon.
After graduating from Pleasantville High School, John attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute and graduated. He proceeded to The University of Miami where he was a swimmer and graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Art before moving onto the State University of New York at Oswego. From Oswego, he graduated with a Master of Art in Industrial Arts.
The Vietnam War and the Pueblo Crisis interrupted his professional career; where he served with the 174th Tactical Fighter Group as an aircraft mechanic and maintenance control technician. Commissioned to Second Lieutenant of the 137th Tactical Air Support Squadron in New Mexico.
He returned to civilian life in Somers, NY working in sales for 5 years. He then began teaching Industrial Arts/Automotive Class at Woodlands High School and then Westlake High School. He and his wife Chris, started their own business of John W. Neubauer Audio Visual Products, Inc. (AVP) in 1976; servicing and repairing A/V or audio visual equipment for public and private schools. Moving to Patterson, NY in 1981, John continued to teach until 1983 when he began to work at AVP full time. No longer solely an A/V or audio visual equipment company, he began selling and servicing IBM and Canon typewriters. Transitioning to office equipment and copiers, AVP became Royal and AB Dick dealer and then an Authorized Canon Office Equipment dealer. He remained as the company co-founder and president until 2016, when their son Randy bought the business and became president.
All along John devoted much of his life to voluntary service, giving back to his various communities in which he lived. First as a Thornwood Lions Club, then The Somers Lions Club, a Charter member of Patterson Rotary, and life-long member of Friends of The Great Swamp (FROGS), Putnam County Land Trust (PCLT); and a 20 yr volunteer to Putnam Hospital Center, where he served for 5 yrs as Chairman of the Board of Trustees; being honored at their Gala in 2015 for his 20 years of service. He continued on as a Putnam Hospital Foundation Committee member until 2022. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and lecturer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Patterson, NY. He was also a Trustee to the Patterson Historical Society. In John's free time he restored two 1955 Ford Thunderbirds, a 1953 Ford F-100 Pickup truck and a 1934 Ford Model B Pickup truck. His other passion and devotion was Tennis.
John played on Somers Town teams and ranked USTA tennis for over 40 yrs and successfully Captained a USTA 4.0 team to the USTA Nationals in Palm Springs, CA in 2005. For fun, you may find John water skiing. He learned on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH as a boy and was on the University of Miami Water Ski Team, To most recently on Candlewood Lake, CT in 2016.
