Gashi re‑elected chairman

Yorktown’s Vedat Gashi is taking on another term as chairman of the Westchester County Board of Legislators.

A Democrat who won reelection to his District 4 seat last November by defeating political newcomer Kevin O’Keefe of Somers, Gashi represents parts of Yorktown, Somers and New Castle. This marks Gashi’s third time being elected chair, and he said,“It was sincerely humbling to receive the unanimous bi-partisan support of my colleagues.”

Gashi said legislators are focused on addressing the affordability crisis, though much remains on the table.

“In our last term we worked hard to restore funding for affordable childcare, strengthened protections for domestic violence survivors, and made targeted investments to make Westchester accessible for working families and seniors,” Gashi told Yorktown news. “Fighting the affordability crisis remains our number one goal, but we are also grappling with the increasingly volatile and antagonistic actions of the federal government. In response, we created an Intergovernmental Relations Committee, focused on addressing federal actions that directly impact our state, county, and local governments — and ultimately, Westchester residents.”

Gashi’s current term lasts one year and expires at the end of 2026. All legislators were elected for single-year terms to align with the new cycle, with the next election set for November.

“The work ahead is incredibly important and challenging, but Westchester is fortunate to have a board made up of legislators with deep expertise and strong ties to their communities,” he said.

“Together, we are committed to delivering real results for the people of Westchester.”
