Paul R. Taxter, aged 87, was called home on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at 10:29 a.m. There to meet him were his loving, wonderful wife, Mary Jane Taxter, of 58 years, his father Richard Taxter and his mother, Vincenza Taxter. He is survived by his four children; his daughter, Cheryl and her husband, Richard; son Paul S. and his wife, Maria; son John; daughter Karen and her husband, Joe. He was the very proud “Gramps” to five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren, with a 4th on the way.

Paul was born in Tarrytown, NY and lived there until his marriage to Mary Jane in 1962. He was an only child, but had many friends, one of whom he was still in contact with up until his passing. He was also known as “Meatball” to his fellow classmates in high school.

Unbeknownst to his children, he was an accomplished high school baseball player, and they were all cheering for him to try out with the NY Dodgers. Paul was also an accomplished golfer and, up until his knee replacement, would be on the course every weekend. Paul was also an accomplished singer and musician and had the rare talent of being able to pick up just about any instrument and play by ear. He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. He would casually make up silly songs and, to the excitement of his granddaughters, sing to them and make them smile. If you ever had the pleasure of listening to one of his voice mail messages, you knew he also had the gift of making people laugh. On Sunday’s, Paul would sit in his chair (where he preferred to be most times) and watch, typically in disappointment, the Jets play, alongside with his two sons.

Paul worked as a United States Postal Worker and Supervisor from the time he was 18 until his retirement in 1992.

Paul’s family would like him to be remembered most for his wonderful sense of humor, which no matter where he was, would bring smiles to everyone around. As well as his silly songs, beautiful voice, the love he had for his wife, children, granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and for his dogs and his cat. He also gave the best hugs and will be extremely missed.

A celebration of life will be held, in his honor, at Clark & Giordano Funeral Home located at 2104 Saw Mill River Road, Yorktown Heights, NY, from 1:00– 4:00 p.m. on November 8th.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in honor of Paul Taxter, to his favorite charitable causes: Wounded Warriors Project and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Links to both are below.
