Michael Spinelli, who was born on Feb. 22, 1954, in Fukuoka, Japan, and passed away on Oct. 22, 2026, in Cortlandt Manor, New York, after a long battle with heart and lung disease. He lived a life marked by heart, humor, and steady purpose. Mike leaves behind a legacy that was as thoughtful as it was warm, and as practical as it was deeply loving. Though he would never consider himself a religious man, his life reflected faith in action, quiet strength, and a genuine care for the people and things he held dear.
Mike was a man who approached life with an analytical mind and a loving spirit. He had some college education, and he built a meaningful career as an electrical draftsman for naval engineering and lighting firms, a profession that suited his careful thinking and his ability to bring order and clarity to complex work. In every setting, he was known for being dependable, funny, and deeply engaged with the world around him. He understood that excellence was not only about skill, but also about consistency, integrity, and the willingness to show up and do the job well.
Those who knew Mike will remember how fully he embraced the simple joys that made life rich. He loved music, especially playing guitar, and he found delight in model trains of any kind. He was a devoted Yankees fan, and he carried a special appreciation for Christmas, the holidays, and the changing seasons, especially the beautiful landscapes of fall and snowy times. He also enjoyed collecting stamps and rare bills and coins, treasures that reflected his appreciation for history, detail, and the beauty found in small things. His dog, Rascal, held a special place in his heart, and his love for good food was matched by his gift for writing poems, usually for cards, especially for his wife with much humor and much love. It was his way of celebrating life's events, a talent that revealed both his creativity and his tenderness.
Mike’s life was also defined by the family he loved so deeply. He is survived by his wife, Gaetana (Tana) Spinelli; his daughter, Melissa Mauro; his son, Michael Spinelli; his granddaughter, Abby; his son-in-law, Mike; his future daughter-in-law, Bianca; and his future grandson, Logan, who will carry on the Spinelli name and whom Mike would have loved so dearly. He cherished his role in the family and understood that love is not measured only in grand gestures, but in the daily acts of kindness, encouragement, and presence that build a lasting bond. His family will carry forward his memory with gratitude for the laughter he shared, the wisdom he offered, and the steady love he gave so freely.
Mike was not merely a man who worked, watched, and waited. He was a man who noticed, who cared, who created, and who loved. He lived with a sense of childlike wonder that never faded, and he showed others that there is strength in gentleness and greatness in gratitude
