Walter R. Schacht passed away in Danbury, CT on May 21, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Schacht and father to Robert Schacht (Jackie) and Maggie MacGovern (Scott). He was also the revered brother of Mary-Ann Schacht (Billy) and Scott Schacht (Kathy).
A graduate of Brewster High School, Walter was born in Mt. Vernon, NY and spent his early years in The Bronx until moving to Brewster in February of 1970. His professional life led him to dedicate 42 years to Leica Geo Systems in Danbury, CT as a CSS Manager.
Walter, aka Mr. Sociable, made friends with everyone. Once Friday night came, you could set your clock to him playing Bocce with the guys. And as far as his baseball allegiance, it could only ever be to the Yankees, while his football allegiance was also for the penultimate New York team, The Giants.
As a family, the annual dinner in Aruba was a must, as it created memories that will live on. Along with Margaret, Robert and Maggie, MaryAnn and Scott, Walter is survived by his grandchildren CJ and Jack, plus many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on May 24 at St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church, followed by burial in St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery in Brewster, NY.
Calling hours were held on May 23 at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY 10509.
