Merle Golz, 92, of Brewster, NY, passed away on February 12, 2025.
Merle was born on January 19, 1933, to Henry Stamps and Mamie Jones Stamps in Leary, Georgia. She had 5 sisters Mamie (Elizabeth), Ruby Ernestine (Tina), Pearl, Henrietta, Oretha and one brother John.
Merle met Richard Golz at the Jack Wyrtzen Hudson cruise for Christian young people. They were married in 1951 and raised 6 children Sharon DiDio / Sero, Ruth Morrissey / Bill (predeceased), Deborah McCue (predeceased) / Dean (predeceased) Tim Golz / Barbara, Mark Golz / Tori, Suzanne Dietrich (predeceased) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We spent Sunday mornings with her at church and Tuesday nights at bible study. She was always in the kitchen cooking for holidays and on the weekends for the family until she passed the torch on to her children. Some fond memories we have with her were attending family reunions, fishing, swimming in the pool, playing rummy 500, pinochle and volleyball.
Prior to her passing she took a bad fall and broke her hip and shoulder. The final moments were perhaps the most precious of all. For a few days we gathered around her bedside, we watched as she took her last breath and slipped peacefully away from us into the presence of Jesus. God mercifully answered our prayers to heal her by calling her home, where she’s now free from all pain and suffering.
Some may look at the situation and think, “She died! How could it be worse?” For those who die in Christ, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. “Death is not the end. For the believer, it is the most glorious beginning.” Merle set a shining example of Christian values for her children and grandchildren. She is now resting in the arms of the Lord.
Calling hours will be Sunday, February 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, NY. A service of Christian faith will be held at Beecher Funeral Home at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 17, followed by a burial at Milltown Rural Cemetery in Brewster, NY.
