Mary R. Tyson, a cherished educator, devoted wife, and beloved family member, passed away on May 8, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on August 11, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, Mary's vivacious spirit and unwavering resilience touched the lives of all who knew her.
Her passion for education led her to a fulfilling career as an educator in the New York City school system. There, she inspired countless students with her dedication and zest for learning, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Her personal life was equally rich with love and companionship. Mary found her soulmate in Regina Maresca, and the two were united in marriage on October 14, 2012. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect, a bond that will remain unbroken.
Mary is survived by her wife, Regina, her brother Daniel Tyson, and her adored nieces, Amanda and Debbie. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Irene(Levine) Tyson.
Beyond her professional achievements and family life, Mary was known for her spirited personality and her commitment to staying active. Even into her 70s, she was an exercise buff, incorporating squats and jumping jacks into her daily routine. Her healthy lifestyle enabled her to enjoy traveling and frequent trips to the beach.
Mary's legacy is one of strength, love, and the capacity to live life to the fullest. She faced challenges with a sassy and lively demeanor, never allowing obstacles to dampen her spirit. Her resilience in the face of adversity was inspirational.
All are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, May 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, New York. Mary's funeral service will begin at 7:15 p.m. during the evening visitation.
