Larry Max Schanbacher of Danbury, CT, passed away with family by his side in Danbury on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the age of 80.
Larry was born September 27, 1944, in Cherokee, OK, son of the late Delbert and Glendola (Jenlink) Schanbacher. He graduated from Cherokee High School in Cherokee, OK then received his PhD in Physiology from Oklahoma State University.
Larry grew up in Oklahoma and moved to New York in his twenties. He worked as a research scientist for General Foods. Larry was an avid runner, marathoner and cyclist. He was also an accomplished research scientist who made significant strides, securing three patents: one for stomach-friendly coffee and two for low-calorie food products.
Larry is survived by his five children, M. Allan Schanbacher of Bettendorf, IA, Yvonne Winkler of Bettendorf, IA, Keri Schanbacher of Reynolds, IL, Brian Schanbacher and his wife Alison Kahn of Anchorage, AK, and Cara Holler and her husband Colin of Hopewell Jct., NY; brothers Floyd Schanbacher of Wooster, OH and Monty Schanbacher of Cherokee, OK; sister Debra Rummel of Tulsa, OK; 6 grandchildren, Andrew, Alexandra, Ian, Seth, Emma and Maxine; great grandchildren Chloe, Joslyn, Alivia and Gabriella. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Christin Gangi.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2025, at the Union Church of Pocantico Hills in Tarrytown, NY at 11 a.m. The interment will be private. Calling hours will take place on Monday April 21, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster, NY.
