John T. Maloney, a longtime resident of Mahopac, N.Y., passed away suddenly July 19, 2026, at the age of 68. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Sept. 20, 1957, the son of the late John and Viola (née Savarese) Maloney. On Nov. 14, 1981, he married Karen McDonald and they were blessed with three children.
John spent much of his professional life with Con Edison, where he worked as an A mechanic until his retirement in 2017. He took pride in his work and his ability to provide for his family.
In his younger years, John enjoyed playing semi-pro baseball; as life went on, he enjoyed sharing the love of the game with his children and grandson.
Above all, John loved being with his family. Time spent with them brought him great happiness and gave his life its deepest meaning. He valued those relationships dearly and found his greatest joy in the simple moments of companionship, conversation, and shared experiences. His love for his family and close loved ones was evident in all he did, and he will be remembered for the devotion and care he showed them throughout his life.
John is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter Maura Anderson and her husband, Ryan; daughter Shaylyn Maloney; son John Maloney and his wife, Julia; grandson Thomas; sister Joan Maloney; and friend Maci, whom he adored as his own. John was preceded in death by his sister Joyce Owen-Williams.
As per John’s wishes, the family will remember him privately.
