John J. McCluskey of Brewster, NY, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side Tuesday July 22, 2026, at the age of 91.

John was one of five children, he was born in Bronx, NY, son of the late Patrick and Anne (Crowley) McCluskey on July 30, 1934.

John attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in Bronx, NY then served with the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956.

On April 21, 1956, he married the love of his life (and the girl next door) Marie Ebert at St. Simon Stock Church in the Bronx. In 1966 they moved to Brewster, NY and became parishioners at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. John worked as a cable splicer for NY Telephone in Carmel, NY for forty years, retiring in 1994. John was a member and past grand knight with the Knights of Columbus, St. Lawrence Council, he loved camping, fishing, wood working and later in life, painting. Most of all he truly loved his family.

Besides his wife Marie, John is survived by his daughter Lillian Orton of Mahwah, NJ; daughter in-law Barbara McCluskey of Peekskill, NY; grandchildren James, Christopher, Samantha, Brandon and Margaret Ann; great grandchildren Jackson, Kellan, Brody, Jean Luc’s, Tanner, Rowan, Maverick, Genevieve and Austin John. He was predeceased by his son Michael McCluskey.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday July 28, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church followed by the burial in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery in Brewster. Visitation will be held on Monday July 27, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, NY.
