The family of Joann Louise Gambino, 85, of Carmel, New York, sadly announces her passing on July 14, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born on April 26, 1941, to Ina and Salvatore Genario, Joann grew up in White Plains, New York, and graduated from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida. Joann was a mother, a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, friend, and neighbor. She wore many hats throughout her life, working as a bartender, grocery store manager, and bookkeeper. She loved music, especially country, and was a devoted fan of Patsy Cline and Neil Diamond. She was also known for her incredible cooking and baking, making the best Italian gravy, meatballs, and braciole anyone could ask for, while keeping one of the cleanest kitchens and homes imaginable.

Joann is survived by her children, Susan Graziano; Michael Graziano and his wife, Irene, along with their children, Vincenzo (Carolyn), Antonio (Victoria), Gino, and Franco (Deanna); Christine Rodgers (the late Robert Rodgers) and her daughter, Gina; Tracy Gambino and her sons, Jake Shemtob (Allison) and Cody Pomposello; and Patti Esposito and her sons, Joe and Michael.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, John Esposito, whose life left a lasting impact on the family as well as the Somers community.

She is survived by her brothers, Salvatore Genario and Edward Genario (Laura).

Joann was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Oliver, Milania, Gianni, Emelia, Juliana, Luca, Enzo, and Lucio.

Her family will remember her for the love she shared through her home, her cooking, her music, and the countless memories created around her table. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s church in Somers, NY on Friday, July 17.

In lieu of flowers; a contribution to the Snow Foundation for Wolfram Syndrome research can be made in Joann’s honor.
