Brian W. Appelbergh, a cherished husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother and friend, passed away March 16, 2026, in Mount Pleasant, N.Y., at the age of 36. Born July 16, 1989, in Yonkers, N.Y., Brian’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, intelligence and humor.
Brian’s journey began as the beloved son of Jon and Kathy (Kolkmann) Appelbergh. His early years were filled with the love and laughter that would become the hallmark of his life. Brian’s academic pursuits led him to earn a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s in education, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning.
Brian dedicated himself to two callings throughout his life. He began his career as a gifted teacher, possessing a rare and profound ability to connect with his students through wisdom and kindness. He later transitioned into the electrical trade, where he was respected for his meticulous work and unwavering reliability. Across both careers, Brian’s colleagues and peers valued him for his deep dedication and his natural gift for building meaningful relationships.
Above all, Brian’s heart belonged to his family. He was a devoted husband to Christine (Spinelli) Appelbergh and a father to his daughters, Sophie and Ava. His love for them was the light and joy of his life. Brian’s family included his siblings Amy Gioacchini (Paul), Lori Gilmore (Dan) and Kristen Appelbergh; his parents-in-law Gene and Marisa Spinelli; and his in-laws Joe Spinelli (Rachael) and Danielle Andrews (Mark). His nieces and nephews will cherish the memories of their uncle.
Brian was a lover of life and brought fun into moments big and small. He loved music and concerts and was a devoted family man and friend. His ability to add humor to nearly any situation brought joy to those who knew him.
Brian’s life reflected the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: “To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” He embodied this ethos every day, leaving a lasting mark on those he encountered.
Those who knew Brian will remember his quick wit, hearty laugh, infectious smile and the kindness he extended to others. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the knowledge he shared and the love he had for his family and friends.
Brian’s life was a testament to a life well lived. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who knew him.
The family thanked those who offered love, support and understanding during this time.
