Crystal Godon of Brewster, New York died peacefully in her sleep on April 2, 2025 at the age of 78. Born on April 2, 1947 to Cissy and Joe Kopmar, Crystal grew up in Brooklyn, New York with her sister Jill. She attended Midwood High School and spent much of her career at Flushing Hospital and later at Lutheran Medical Center as a manager of the faculty practice.
Crystal was deeply spiritual and wonderfully creative. As a young woman she was a painter, poet, musician and actor, hanging out in Greenwich Village in the 1960s. Later, when she could find the time, she enjoyed reading novels, studying art history, and listening to jazz. She had a sharp wit, was a great cook and truly loved her coffee. A proud member of AA for 47 years, Crystal’s devotion to her family was unwavering. She raised her two children, Michelle and Carlo Schiano largely on her own in Flushing, Queens. Previously married, she found her true love, Greg later in life. Greg was a devoted husband and caretaker, especially in her last years.
In addition to her beloved husband and children, Carlo and Michelle (Michael), Crystal is survived by her grandchildren, Lucca and Cosimo Schiano, and her sister. She is further survived by her stepchildren, Alex Godon and Kate Marino (and her children, John, Giuliana and Colette). Her loyal dog Paige continues to look for her around the house. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Mel Kopmar.
Donations in Crystal Godon’s memory may be made to The Humane Society or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Crystal will be deeply missed and remembered by those who knew and loved her, including her children’s friends who grew up spending way too much time on her sofa in the 90s.
