When I’ve needed help, Lawler has answered

Dear Editor,

I read Todd Henrich’s letter ("Judge Lawler by his votes, not his debate performance," published on katonahlewisborotimes.com on Oct. 9 and in this week's newspaper) about Congressman Mike Lawler, and I couldn’t disagree more with his characterization of the congressman.

As a Lewisboro resident who is actively involved in our community, I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand how Mike Lawler represents the people of this district. My experience has been very different from the picture Mr. Henrich paints.

I’ve personally reached out to Congressman Lawler on several occasions, whether for advice, recommendations, or help navigating difficult international situations. Every single time, he’s been accessible, responsive, and genuinely willing to help. That’s not political rhetoric. That’s my personal experience.

Mr. Henrich raises several issues where he disagrees with Lawler’s votes. He’s entitled to those opinions, but there’s a difference between examining someone’s voting record and drawing sweeping conclusions about their commitment to the people they represent. Voters deserve the full context, not just the interpretation that supports one side of an argument.

Mike grew up in this district, is raising his family here, and continues to make himself available to the communities he represents. He doesn’t just talk about showing up. He actually does.

I’ve been involved in local government and community organizations long enough to know that public service isn’t about agreeing with everyone. It’s about listening, being accessible, and doing the work, even when people have different political views.

We need more of that, not less.

I’m not suggesting everyone has to agree with Mike Lawler on every issue. I certainly don’t expect to agree with any elected official 100% of the time. But I do believe we should recognize the difference between political disagreement and a genuine commitment to public service.

I know where Mike Lawler stands when his constituents need him, because I’ve experienced it firsthand. That matters to me.

And he has my vote.
