Jeanne Lorraine Cooney, 76 years old, peacefully passed away in the morning on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Born on March 1, 1950, in the Bronx, New York, Jeanne was the daughter of Chester and Ruth (Reid) Bailey. She pursued her passion for helping others by earning an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Iona College. Beyond her nursing career, she dedicated herself to serving as a devoted Episcopalian at St. John’s Episcopal Church in South Salem, New York, for many years.
Jeanne was a spirited woman with a contagious smile and laughter that could brighten any room. She was always eager to experiment with new recipes she discovered on cooking shows or in magazines. A generous soul, she always had at least one foster pet that often accompanied her around her home.
We will fondly remember the joyful moments we shared, such as doing her Jane Fonda workouts in the playroom basement, cooking delicious dinners, and enjoying cocktails while listening to her favorite artists like Bette Midler, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Barbara Streisand.
Jeanne is survived by her three children: Scott Cooney, Brian (Gina) Cooney, and Carrie (Patrick) Riddle. She is also blessed with beautiful grandchildren, Isabella, Mia, and Emma (children of Brian and Gina Cooney), and Aubrey (child of Carrie and Patrick Riddle),and her loving brother, Thomas (Lynn) Bailey. Jeanne is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who were always by her side, cheering her on.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Jeanne’s life on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at 82 Spring Street, South Salem, NY 10590.
