YORKTOWN SOFTBALL (4-1)

Yorktown 15, Mahopac 1

Eva Destito (extra-base hit, 2 RBI), Katie Piehler (hit, 2 walks, 3 runs), Penny Einhorn (hit, run, walk, RBI), Alicia Cinicolo (3 hits, 2 extra-base hits, RBI, 2 stolen bases), Ally Pace (hit, run, stolen base), Mia Horn (hit, walk, 3 RBI, 3 runs), and Sofia Sladek (2 hits, extra-base hit, RBI, run, stolen base) sparked the Huskers at the plate in their 15-1 win against Mahopac.

Kate Brown (3 innings, 0 runs, 0 hits, 4 strikeouts) and Sladek (3 innings, 1 run, 6 strikeouts) performed well on the mound for Yorktown.

Yorktown 7, Brewster 2

Yorktown registered its fourth win in a row by beating Brewster, 7-2.

“It felt amazing to win this game,” Brown said. “Eva (Destito, catcher) and I were on the same page all day. Brewster is a really good team, especially offensively since they have a lot of great hitters in their lineup. We got in a couple of jams but had a big double play to get out of one, and I was lucky to get a few strikeouts when we needed them. Once again, we had some big hits, including Eva’s home run, and Alyssa and Alicia had some key RBI.”

Destito (2 extra-base hits, homer, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Adriana Barca (2 hits, run), Cinicolo (hit, run, RBI), Alyssa McEniry (hit, run, RBI, walk), Sienna Katzenberg (hit, RBI), and Brown (7 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 0 earned runs, 9 strikeouts, extra-base hit, run) came up clutch for Yorktown.

“Being 4-1 is a great start to the season, and we’re playing very well together right now,” Brown said. “Hopefully we can build on it next week, starting with the game against Suffern.”

LAKELAND SOFTBALL (4-1)

Lakeland 14, Roosevelt 1 (5 innings)
Wednesday, April 9, Lakeland High School

Lakeland defeated Roosevelt, 14-1, in five innings, led by winning pitcher Nicole Mautone (3-for-4, 2 singles, double, RBI, 5 innings, 7 strikeouts, 2 hits), Gianna Santini (2-for-2, single, double, 2 RBI), and Jenna Taylor (2-for-2, double, triple, 2 RBI).

“We fed off each other’s energy and kept our heads in the game,” said Mautone. “We also came together as a team and supported each other throughout.”

LAKELAND/PANAS GIRLS LACROSSE (1-3)

Lakeland/Panas 13, Carmel 6
Tuesday, April 8, Carmel High School

Maddie DiMirco (4G, 2A), Brooke Pizzarello (4G, 1A), Emma Stewart (3G), Katelyn Kuney (2G), Anna Lemma (1A), Lilly Whippo (1A), Chloe Moore (1A), and Veronica Lynch (7 saves) propelled Lakeland/Panas to its 13-6 win against Carmel—their first of the season.

“I think our team was able to come away with the win against Carmel because we came out with a spark during the second half,” Pizzarello said. “This was definitely a team effort. Everyone on the field was able to connect with each other to fight for the win. We never gave up and made sure to put in 110 percent for the rest of the game.”

Pearl River 14, Lakeland/Panas 13

Brie Gaccino (2G, 1A), Annie Cunneen (2G, 1A), Ava Cunneen (2G, 2 draw controls), Sydney Sateriale (2G, 1 draw control), Sofia Boucher (1G, 1 draw control), Ava Ryan (1G), Lily Diaz (5 draw controls), Caitlin Mulvihill (2 draw controls), and Annie Durante (16 saves) led Yorktown in its 12-10 loss.

Gaccino (4G, 3A), Ava Cunneen (3G), Sateriale (4G, 2A), Boucher (4G, 2A), Diaz (2G), Ryan (2G), Annie Cunneen (1G), and Durante (5 saves) ignited Yorktown to its 20-13 victory.

“We did very well on the circle and got a lot of possession off the draw, as we also helped create turnovers on the ride, giving us more possession time,” Gaccino said. “On offense we moved the ball well. Everyone worked hard to make each other look good.”

Highlighting the win was senior Ava Cunneen scoring her 100th-career goal.

“Getting my 100th-career goal meant so much to me, especially getting it in such an amazing team win,” she said. “I couldn’t have done it without my amazing teammates and coaches who have supported me throughout everything.”

LAKELAND/PANAS BOYS LACROSSE (2-3)

Lakeland/Panas 15, Wappingers 5

Paul Fitzgerald (4G), Vinny Savastano (3G, 2A), Oban Rader (2G, 3A), CC Savastano (2G, 1A), Jesse DiPaola (2G), Anthony Ray (2G), Mikey DiCioccio (2A), Joe LaPeruta (1A), Nick Kaufman (1A), Mike Zumatto (1A), and Dan Horowitz (9 saves) led the Rebels in their 15-5 win.

“We were determined to get back on the right track after a loss,” Rader said. “We knew we had to play better and make good decisions in order to execute and get the win. The team came together, played hard and came out on top. Hopefully we can start to build momentum.”

“It was a great team win,” Frobose said. “Being able to help out my team with the bat and pitching is great. I want to give my team the best chance to win.”
