Five local Scouts have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor in Scouting.
Aldo Dilaura, Matt Fitzsimmons and John Guven of Troop 164, along with Derek Kennedy and Sean Kowatch of Troop 165, recently earned the prestigious rank.
Councilman Sergio Esposito read the names of the scouts at the June 16 Town Board meeting, recognizing their accomplishments before the community.
To achieve Eagle Scout, candidates must remain active in their troop for at least six months as a Life Scout, demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges — including 13 required badges — and complete a significant community service project that demonstrates leadership and service.
The Eagle Scout rank is awarded to a small percentage of Scouts and reflects years of dedication, perseverance and commitment to serving others.
