Two teenagers are facing felony charges in connection with a double stabbing at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, police said.
A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy were both charged with first-degree assault.
The former was sent to Woodfield Cottage, a juvenile detention facility in Valhalla. The latter was due to be arraigned in Greenburgh Town Court on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Due to the girl’s age, her case will be handled in the Westchester County’s Youth Court.
Police confirmed on Thursday that the 18-year-old suspect was Darryl Crawford of Yonkers.
According to police, there were two stabbing victims, both male.
A knife was recovered, police said.
The one who was most seriously injured remained hospitalized at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. The second was treated at the hospital and released.
Police reported that four people had gotten into a fight outside the David Swope Student Center around 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The two suspects were taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow to be treated for lacerations and other injuries that allegedly occurred during the melee. Neither suffered a stab wound, police said.
The building was temporarily closed and later reopened.
Things on campus appeared to be operating normally by late Wednesday afternoon. Residents in the immediate area of the college’s Grasslands Road campus reported being alarmed by the sight of helicopters flying overhead.
SUNY Westchester Community College's Office of the President said in a statement its student center was closed after the stabbing but was later reopened.
“Our top priority is ensuring a safe and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, and staff," the school said.
