The Yorktown Town Board approved several personnel changes, including the appointment of Robyn Steinberg as the town’s permanent director of planning, during its meeting Tuesday.
Steinberg, who has served as provisional director since March 23, will officially assume the role effective July 8 and earn an annual salary of $160,000. A 24-year town employee, she previously served as town planner under former Planning Director John Tegeder, who recommended Steinberg as his successor upon his retirement.
The board appointed John Foley as a laborer in the Sewer Department. Foley will earn an annual salary of $54,585, with benefits including sick days, personal days and floating holidays under the CSEA agreement. The appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and includes a probationary period of 12 to 52 weeks.
Police Officer Devin Gregorio was appointed to the position of detective in the Yorktown Police Department at the discretion of the chief of police. Gregorio will receive an annual salary of $144,715 and serve in the position for a period determined by the chief of police.
Yorktown Police Officer Brandon Schmelmer was appointed police sergeant at an annual salary of $151,925.
The appointments are effective July 13.
The board accepted the retirement of Judy Garretto from the Yorktown Police Department, effective July 11, and thanked her for her many years of dedicated service to the town. Supervisor Ed Lachterman said Garretto has earned praise and compliments over the years, and will be missed.
The board also accepted the resignation of Police Officer Gino Argiro, effective July 5. Argiro resigned from the Yorktown Police Department after accepting a position with the Westchester County Police Department.
Argiro was among two new officers sworn in by Commissioner Terrance Raynor on July 2 during a ceremony at the Westchester County Police Academy.
Lachterman wished him well.
