Gilbert returns to the table

Former supervisor, judge begins term as councilman

There is a new—but familiar—face at the table at Yorktown Town Hall.

After being sworn in Jan. 1, Ilan “Lanny” Gilbert made his first official appearance as a councilman at the board’s Jan. 6 meeting, joining fellow Democrat Susan Siegel and three Republicans: Patrick Murphy, re-elected Town Supervisor Ed Lachterman and Deputy Supervisor Sergio Esposito, who were inaugurated at the same New Year’s Day ceremony as Gilbert.

“I’m grateful for the trust our residents placed in me once again,” Gilbert said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the spirit of teamwork, transparency and common purpose.”

A former town supervisor and town judge, Gilbert won election to the seat in November 2025, defeating incumbent Luciana Haughwout by 115 votes, 5,579 to 5,464.

“I know the dedication required to serve the people of Yorktown and to make this a great place to live and raise a family,” he said at the Jan. 6 meeting. “I’m very proud to serve the people of Yorktown once more.”
